On day 2 after I submitted my query, I was surfing social media when receipt of her rejection email came through. I was bracing for this, noticing that she (or her assistant, I guess) rejects large groups of queries seemingly all at once. I ran immediately to her query queue. In that less-than-one-minute, there were already 4 additional rejections after mine. I say this not to shame the agent for dumping swaths of queries into the garbage without even looking at them, but for my fellow query-ers. Some rejections are really rejections, but some are just a sign that they can’t keep up with the flood of us submitting. Don’t take it personally. It’s an unsustainable model, and thanks to AI garbage clogging their in-boxes, it’s getting worse every day.
