Thank you so much for submitting your query, XXX, to me! I truly appreciate and understand the time and effort that goes into the writing and querying processes, and I'm honored that you considered me for your work.

Even though I found many interesting concepts and qualities in your query and sample pages, including the XXX backdrop, I didn't quite click with the manuscript as much as I had hoped to. Ultimately, I felt that information such as exposition and world-building was told rather than shown.

This was a very tough call for me, and I constantly went back and forth before deciding. Please know that publishing is a very subjective industry, and what doesn't work for me could be exactly what another agent is looking for.

That being said, I absolutely adore your premise. If you ever decide to apply another round of edits to XXX, I would love to take another look! I'd also be happy to consider future work from you. I truly believe that your conceptual thinking will get you far in this industry.

I sincerely apologize for not having better news to share. Thank you again for providing me with the opportunity to review your writing. As a poet, I know how scary it can be putting yourself and your work out there.
